Something Dreamy for the Road :: Summer 2010 Play List

This year already proved itself as a fantastic year for releases and shows. Something Dreamy for the Road is a list of music released in 2010 and it’s music that I am absolutely in love with. This is an on going list of awesome, so look for a part two in the fall or maybe sooner. Who knows? I may need to do a part 3. You can listen to most of the songs below, but I suggest you get out there and buy the records because those are just tastes of how awesome those albums actually are.

Camera Talk – Local Natives

Dream City  [Live in Austin] – Free Energy
Their whole album, Stuck On Nothing, is a soundtrack to summer. This song is my favorite song on the album and it’s a live track because these guys sound incredible live.

Take Care – Beach House

Truth Sets In – Avi Buffalo

More or Less – The Soft Pack

Our Deal – Best Coast

Holiday – Vampire Weekend

Crown on the Ground – Sleigh Bells

The Suburbs – Arcade Fire

Odessa – Caribou

Stay Close – Delorean

Tugboat – Venice Is Sinking
Seriously, Venice Is Sinking is one of the greatest bands to come out of Athens in quite sometime. They are definitely Wholly Roller approved. Sand & Lines will be available on June 15 and proceeds go to rebuilding the Georgia Theatre that burned in 2009.

Life Coach – Fang Island

Let Go – jj

Dance Yrslf Clean – LCD Soundsystem

It Gets Your Body Moving – Suckers
The one I chose is from the Daytrotter Session they did, its probably the best I’ve heard (besides live, of course). Wild Smile will be available on June 8 and I can tell you this, it will be awesome.

Take It Easy – Surfer Blood

Crown on the Ground – Sleigh Bells

Friday in Paris – Strange Boys

Thieves – She & Him

Cold War (Nice Clean Fight) – The Morning Benders

Deadbeat Summer – Neon Indian

BONUS song because I love you guys and this is a mix of two things I love: Suckers and Local Natives.

Vampire Weekend :: Two doses of awesome

Alright, so I love Rancid. I really love Rancid. And I really love Vampire Weekend. When the two are put together, it just makes it that much better. I’m not too sure how I didn’t know about this until about 20 minutes ago, but nonetheless here it is. Vampire Weekend doing a fantastic cover of one or my favorite Rancid songs, ‘Ruby Soho’.

But wait, there’s more! Vampire Weekend has also released a music video for “Giving Up The Gun”. The video is directed by The Malloys and features cameos from Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, Jake Gyllenhaal, Lil’ Jon and RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan.

This is really awesome :: The Very Best

When I get really bored with what’s in my CD player or iPod, I turn to the radio. Of course, I don’t listen to the plain old FM/AM radio, I listen to blog radio, which is a satellite station. It’s totally worth it.

Anyway, the past couple of times I’ve turned on the radio the song “Warm Heart of Africa” by The Very Best featuring Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend comes over the air waves.

It is such a great song. Really, go listen to it on The Very Best’s MySpace page.

So, who is The Very Best? It’s a collaboration of Malawi born Esau Mwamwaya and DJ/production duo Radioclit. The Very Best’s sound is a blend of dance, hip hop and traditional African sounds (Wikipedia).

Their album is set to come out sometime this year and it is to feature artists such as Ezra Koenig and M.I.A. This music is definitey for fans of dance hall music, reggae and basically good music.

Check it out. Now.
