NEW ALBUM FROM GIRLS OUT SEPT. 13

Y’all, I can hardly contain my excitement about this announcement. NEW GIRLS ALBUM, FATHER, SON, HOLY GHOST, will be out in the US on September 13 on Turnsile Music. When I read the email this morning I literally squealed. Squealed! Anyway, check out the track listing of Father, Son, Holy Spirit below and some fun facts about the album from Chris Owens’ Twitter account. I’m particularly excited about fact 3, “Oh My Love” is such a beautiful track, absolutely gorgeous.

GR3FSHG 1, The cover is yes, lyrics from the album, BUT, it’s ALL the lyrics from the album, & in proper order, just read along as it plays.
GR3FSHG 2, in reply to comments, Lysandre 7 is not on because Lysandre is a full album, 7 is just track 7 from that album.
GR3FSHG 3, ‘Oh My Love’ could not be included because it is also part of another album of Country music.
GR3FSHG 4, a slight mistake from Spin’s article- John Anderson, Darren Weiss, Dan Eisenberg are the other musicians on the album.
GR3FSHG 5, also the title is absolutely not in reference to my background, in any way.
GR3FSHG 6, The reason ‘Record 3′ is printed as a subtitle is simply a nod to the importance of our 2nd record BDC, which was a big statement.
GR3FSHG 7, while this is our 2nd album it is our 3rd record.
GR3FSHG 8, Vomit was written before any song on ‘Album’. ‘Magic’ ‘Just A Song’ & ‘My Ma’ are the most recently written.
GR3FSHG 9, Just those few things that i think could be helpful for people writing articles, reviewing, etc… and anyone interested.

I Saw The Sea is the latest EP from lovely crooner Mutual Benefit aka Jordan Lee. If I could use one word to describe this EP I would use the word peaceful. Have you ever been in the middle of woods, just walking around or sitting on a tree stump? Did you stop and listen to the noises happening around you? Well, this is what I Saw The Sea sounds like, nature.

Lee mixes gorgeous harmonies with unique drumming and electronics to create a truly original sound. And it features Katie Pierce on violin and Andrew Morehart. This EP goes well with a rainy, spring day. It’s relaxing and easy to listen to. I Saw The Sea is beautiful.

Mood Rings has released a free four song EP called Sweater Weather Forever via Double Phantom Digital. I highly, highly recommend you check them out. If you are fan of dreamy lo-fi pop with a splash of shoegaze, you’ll be all about Mood Rings. I know I am.

We live in an exciting, artistic time and that’s made very clear when albums like SOUL GLO are unleashed on our ears. Part psychedelic, part soul. Mickey Mickey Rourke and Lester Brown have created an art form all their own appropriately titled Mickey Brown.

SOUL GLO is interesting and strange, but in a good way. Check out my favorite track from the album below and then head over to Bandcamp and buy it!

Listen :: New Track from True Womanhood

I’ve become very fond of True Womanhood over the past couple of months. Each track I hear by this band is innovative and fresh. They continuously reinvent their sound and this track is no exception. Minajah is the first track from a series they are calling Reel Too Real.

It was inspired by the recent creation of the Moombahton dance craze, right here in DC.  We didn’t use Ableton like everyone else because we are idiots and we thought we could make electronic music using live instruments patched through effects pedals.  Also, Stevie Wonder shook our hands the day we bought the synth that this song was played on and told us it was a good choice.  His magic apparently rubbed off.   (We are not kidding.  This is a true story).

Save The Clocktower :: Carousel

Save The Clocktower is an electro-pop band from Chicago.  Greg Newton (Drums, vocals, electronics), Sean Paras (guitar, vocals), Jimmy Shenk (keyboards) started the band back in 2007 and self-released their debut in 2009. The band is back in 2011 with Carousel.

I’ve probably listened to Carousel 100 times since it was sent to me early December. I immediately fell in love with everything about it.

When I think of a carousel, I imagine the traditional type of spinning machine. The type that has colorful horses and carriages rotating around with smiling kids and parents photographing them having a blast. When I was a kid, I imagined that those horses and carriages would lift off the carousel and take me to another place. It’s easy to lose yourself when you listen to Save The Clocktower‘s Carousel, like it was easy for me to lose myself as a kid on the carousel. The dreamy tracks on this album have the ability to take you to another place.

Save the Clocktower‘s sound is pure electronic pop with a hint of shoegaze. And their 10 track album is compiled of beat-driven jams that could hold their own on any dance floor or in your headphones.

The Carousel ride begins with “Drip”, an introduction to the album got me completely hooked and I couldn’t wait to hear more. The album ends with a slow burning, “Headphones”, which is absolutely gorgeous. Every song in between reinvents the band’s sound. This album has high repeatability without getting old. It’s just a fun album to listen to.

Save The Clocktower‘s Carousel is set for release on February 26 on CD and digital formats. I’ll have more information about how you can get your hands on this gem later, but for now check out my favorite track on the album, “Far Apart”, below.
