I should be sleeping, but I feel like this is worth staying up to mention. Coachella is going to be awesome.
If you live or have the means to get to California, you need to. This year’s festival is going to be worth the $269 3-day pass, $3 0f which goes to charity. If I wasn’t a poor student, I would totally try and go.
It’s happening April 16, 17 and 18. Tickets go on sale at 10 A.M. January 22.

As many of you all know, I really enjoy mixes. Like really enjoy them. I think it is so cool how people can listen to something and know exactly what to add to it or mash it up with to make it sound incredible.
Well, there is a mix extraordinaire out there that’s worth mentioning. 8-bit Slave hails from New York and has a lot to offer.
Sounding like a cross between Crookers, David Guetta, Timbaland, and Just Blaze, 8-bit Slave is influenced by a wide range of styles and refrains from calling one genre his comfort zone. He can produce House, Electro, Minimal, Hip Hop, or Pop, but tends to weave in & out of all those genres while incorporating elements of those and other styles into his sound. He doesn’t like to be classified into a single genre and caters to going beyond and discovering, rather than warming up the copy machine and cloning.
Check out this mix of pop princess Britney’s ‘Piece of Me’. It is awesome.

Pretty much every music and film outlet is buzzing about this festival. I, unfortunately, do not live in New York nor do I have the means of getting there, but this seems really cool and I feel its worth mentioning.
Its not only worth mentioning because it is awesome, but the rocking DJ Scott Durday is spinning at this really spectacular festival. You know Scott from all of The Soundmen remixes. He sent me an email saying that he will be DJing the Canteen’s Showcase this weekend. It is a new venure at the Southstreet Seaport. He invite people that “want to hear great music and rock out with a killer view.” He will be there Friday evening starting at 8 pm, Brett Saxon and HERE will be performing along with multiple sets by Durday before and after. Then on Saturday he says that “the event really gets rolling with Mike Falzone, Moses, Tammy Infusino and Members Only playing” as well as sets from Durday in between and after. These events are sponsered by The Green Room, NYC’s best surf brand, and Branded Baron. He concludes by telling me that tons of drink specials and fun is to be had.
There is an insanely long list of bands going to be there, too many to list. Here is a link to that page. Some bands that caught my eye are Crystal Antlers, Turbo Fruits, The Antlers, The Depreciation Guild, Deer Tick, Japandroids, The Selmanaires and The Very Best, to name a few. Honestly the list is huge, so definitely go look at it if you plan on going and check out the schedule, too.
This is also a film festival so they will be showing some amazing independent films through out the week as well at various locations around the city. You should definitely hit that up if you have a chance.
This just a really cool way for new and old acts in the independent arena to get out there. So go if you can, I feel that you will not be disappointed.
The festival started yesterday (Tuesday 10/20) and goes through Saturday (10/24). Go check it out if you can, it sounds really awesome and I am insanely jealous of anyone that has the ability to make it out! And if you can’t make it then check out Brooklyn Vegan and Paste Magazine for the best updates on everything that is going on at CMJ.
It was suggested to me on Facebook and I think it is honestly one of the coolest things on the internet.
Analog Apartment is all about vinyl, all the time. They update you on the latest products and information about vinyl. Its completely interactive making it completely awesome.
Another thing that makes this site that much cooler is My Analog Apartment. A place that you can log all of the vinyl you have and keep a list of all the vinyl you want. Its simple and great.

The Soundmen have done it again, another incredible remix from the remix extraordinaries. This time they have remixed The Killers song ‘Human’. To be honest, I don’t really care for the song, but this remix makes me love it. The beat they have added to this mediocre song makes it shine. I’m sure you will agree. The Soundmen did this remix to honor The Killers’ new live album, Live from Royal Albert Hall, due out November 9th.
What came out was a driving and anthemic version of the song which is more geared towards a soundtrack of slow motion car wrecks as opposed the original’s disco ball roots. Enjoy!!! – The Soundmen

When I get really bored with what’s in my CD player or iPod, I turn to the radio. Of course, I don’t listen to the plain old FM/AM radio, I listen to blog radio, which is a satellite station. It’s totally worth it.
Anyway, the past couple of times I’ve turned on the radio the song “Warm Heart of Africa” by The Very Best featuring Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend comes over the air waves.
It is such a great song. Really, go listen to it on The Very Best’s MySpace page.
So, who is The Very Best? It’s a collaboration of Malawi born Esau Mwamwaya and DJ/production duo Radioclit. The Very Best’s sound is a blend of dance, hip hop and traditional African sounds (Wikipedia).
Their album is set to come out sometime this year and it is to feature artists such as Ezra Koenig and M.I.A. This music is definitey for fans of dance hall music, reggae and basically good music.
