We’re a month into 2014 and I’ve finally gotten around to compiling a list of albums I loved in 2013. My life changed quite a bit last year and I wasn’t as connected to new music as I had been in the past or wanted to be. But that’s okay. I think change is good and I’m excited for what 2014 will bring. So, here we go.
This list wasn’t really hard to make. These 11 albums were on constant rotation throughout the year and it was pretty much love at first listen for every single one. So, without further ado and in no particular order, here are my favorites of 2013.
Hey ATL, dreamy 5-piece Mood Rings just released their debut LP VPI Harmony (Mexican Summer) earlier this week and to celebrate they’ll be at 529TONIGHT. The show is $5, doors are at 9, and joining them are Warehouse, Factory and Speakerfoxxx.
I like making lists, I really do. I don’t know why, maybe it’s some OCD thing or whatever, but I like making lists. Anyway, so I’m going to start my FAVORITES posts off with LOCALS ONLY. These are releases I love from Atlanta-based bands.
These are in no particular order.
New Animal – Still In Mind
Small Reactions – Nerve Pop
Mood Rings – Sweater Weather Forever
Reptar – Oblangle Fizz Y’all
Spirits and The Melchizedek Children – We Are Here To Save You
Mood Rings has released a free four song EP called Sweater Weather Forever via Double Phantom Digital. I highly, highly recommend you check them out. If you are fan of dreamy lo-fi pop with a splash of shoegaze, you’ll be all about Mood Rings. I know I am.
This EP is just lovely.
