This list is part one of my four-part post regarding my favorite music of 2010. Stay tuned for my list of favorite 7″, 10″, and 12″ EPs and singles of 2010.
The Soundmen are at it again. This time they have remixed and recreated Local Natives‘ “World News”.
These guys have taken this already incredible song and have transformed it into an 80′s dance track that you will probably play over and over again.
Always pushing their genre crossing sounds to the next level, The Soundmen have remixed Local Natives – World News into a groove heavy blend that takes the song back into the days when Pet Shop Boys, Peter Gabriel and INXS were playlist standards.

A band like Local Natives only comes around once in awhile. I can hardly put into words how I feel about their music. From the intriguing percussion to the beautiful harmonies, this band has done nothing but amaze me every time I hear a song or see them perform live.
An encore Daytrotter session was released today. In this session, the band has reworked three of their already gorgeous tracks, “Sticky Thread”, “Wide Eyes” and “Cubism Dream”.
Go check it out here and download it for free.
Listen :: Cubism Dream (Daytrotter Session, July 26, 2010)
And if for some reason you don’t own Gorilla Manor yet, you should probably head to your local record store and pick up a copy. It’s available now on Frenchkiss.
Local Natives are also hitting the road this fall with The Love Language (west coast dates), The Union Line (east coast dates) and Ruby Suns (east coast dates). Check out their Myspace for details. I know I’ll be seeing them at the Atlanta show on October 15.
I’m not good at putting stuff in numerical order. Mainly because I can’t choose just one thing that I think is the best. So, here’s my list of favorite 2010 releases, so far.

Curious about what’s to come? I anticipate Best Coast’s Crazy For You (July 27), Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs (August 3) and Les Savy Fav’s Root For Ruin (September 14) will be added to this growing list of favorites.
About a week or so ago the guys of Local Natives released stems to the songs from Gorilla Manor on a microsite they set up. For the cost of an email address you can download the stems and create something out of these incredible tunes. And the remixes are posted on the site for people to listen to. Suckers’ remix of “Wide Eyes” got the ball rolling and now there are five others to check out including this one from Teen Daze.
mp3: Local Natives: Wide Eyes (Teen Daze Remix)
Here’s the remix from Suckers for you to enjoy in case you missed it.
All of these upcoming shows are Wholly Roller approved and I’ll do my best to keep you posted if they sell out. And I’ll add to this list and update it as more events are announced!
All of the shows listed are going to be amazing (obviously or they wouldn’t be on this list!), but there are some that if you miss them you should be smacked upside the head. If you see a * you should be slapped for missing it and if you see **, then you deserve a swift kick in the rear for missing it. If you see ***, don’t even bother talking to me or suffer the consequences for missing out. Seriously, DO NOT miss these amazing shows!

Careful – Local Natives

This year already proved itself as a fantastic year for releases and shows. Something Dreamy for the Road is a list of music released in 2010 and it’s music that I am absolutely in love with. This is an on going list of awesome, so look for a part two in the fall or maybe sooner. Who knows? I may need to do a part 3. You can listen to most of the songs below, but I suggest you get out there and buy the records because those are just tastes of how awesome those albums actually are.

Camera Talk – Local Natives
Dream City [Live in Austin] – Free Energy
Their whole album, Stuck On Nothing, is a soundtrack to summer. This song is my favorite song on the album and it’s a live track because these guys sound incredible live.
Take Care – Beach House
Truth Sets In – Avi Buffalo
More or Less – The Soft Pack
Our Deal – Best Coast
Holiday – Vampire Weekend
Crown on the Ground – Sleigh Bells
The Suburbs – Arcade Fire
Odessa – Caribou
Stay Close – Delorean
Tugboat – Venice Is Sinking
Seriously, Venice Is Sinking is one of the greatest bands to come out of Athens in quite sometime. They are definitely Wholly Roller approved. Sand & Lines will be available on June 15 and proceeds go to rebuilding the Georgia Theatre that burned in 2009.
Life Coach – Fang Island
Let Go – jj
Dance Yrslf Clean – LCD Soundsystem
It Gets Your Body Moving – Suckers
The one I chose is from the Daytrotter Session they did, its probably the best I’ve heard (besides live, of course). Wild Smile will be available on June 8 and I can tell you this, it will be awesome.
Take It Easy – Surfer Blood
Crown on the Ground – Sleigh Bells
Friday in Paris – Strange Boys
Thieves – She & Him
Cold War (Nice Clean Fight) – The Morning Benders
Deadbeat Summer – Neon Indian
BONUS song because I love you guys and this is a mix of two things I love: Suckers and Local Natives.
