We live in an exciting, artistic time and that’s made very clear when albums like SOUL GLO are unleashed on our ears. Part psychedelic, part soul. Mickey Mickey Rourke and Lester Brown have created an art form all their own appropriately titled Mickey Brown.
SOUL GLO is interesting and strange, but in a good way. Check out my favorite track from the album below and then head over to Bandcamp and buy it!
I’ve wanted to organize something that taps into the community aspect of music blogging for some time on this site. The holidays seems like a good enough excuse as any, and today we invite you to join in Cream Team‘s first annual Secret Santa Vinyl Swap. You’ll find all the relevant information below. You have one week to decide if you’d like to take part. Deadline to participate is Monday, December 8 at 5 p.m. CST. Swap partners will be assigned the following day.
Clickity click this LINK and read the rest of the post on Cream Team‘s website. Check it out, y’all.
Today is the day I decided to sift through my inbox. And I’m glad I did. I found a treasure from Washington D.C.-based band True Womanhood.
It’s easy to hear the influences of The Smiths and Joy Division. And they do a fantastic job mixing their influences with exciting drum beats, synths, and vocals to create a brilliant sound all their own. True Womanhood‘s debut EP, Basement Membranes, was released earlier this year on the Baltimore-based label Environmental Aesthetics. A full length is due out soon.
I’m excited to announce that Levek aka David Levesque is releasing a 7″ on Father/Daughter Records. This self-titled 7″ is the first release for Levek and it’s coming at you on November 16. “Look on the Bright Side” is the A-side, “Slow” is the B-side and the record, limited to 400 is pressed on red vinyl. Red vinyl! And check this out, each vinyl order will include a digital download bundle with both songs from the 7″ and his previously unreleased song “Chief” as well as two brand spanking new tracks.
I could ramble on for days about how great Levek‘s sun soaked tunes are (seriously, great.), but I think you should take a listen and let this lovely tune warm you up. Then head on over and pre-order the 7″. Links and whatnot will appear below.
Spider Heaven from Mutual Benefit (aka Jordan Lee) is brilliant. It’s an intelligent and beautiful piece of art. Spider Heaven is an experimental pop piece with a hint of 60′s psych. It’s gorgeous. And awesome, really awesome.
It’s available now on Bandcamp along with the amazing EP Drifting that was released earlier this year. You can also get Spider Heavenon cassette for only $6. Worth it? Definitely.
Listen to “Moonville Tunnel” here. It’s a favorite of mine.
The highly anticipated debut (for me anyway) from Eternal Summers, Silver, will be available on Sept. 28.
Here’s a track list via The Music Slut.
2. I Know Now
5. Running High
6. Safe At Home
7. I’ll Die Young For Rock N Roll
9. Worlds Away
12. Bully In Disguise
A couple of days ago Philly-based blogger Mark of Yvynyl updated the Internet about this new EP available for download. Because I love discovering new music and because I trust Yvynyl, I clicked the link. What I found was Sunny Ali and The Kid and I can’t get enough. Seriously. Sunny Ali and The Kid are a Philly-based kind of country, kind of punk and whole lot of awesome band. They recently released a digital EP called Try Harder, which you can download here. It’s available for free, but the band does accept donations, which I recommend you do because according to Mark they are great live. Monies = Tour. That’s what I’m talking about. Also, if it’s good (and it is pretty darn good) it’s worth buying.
Check out these tracks below, they are my favorites from the EP.
The Best For You
I’ve seriously had this EP on repeat for the past two days. I love it.
So I am already freaking out about how awesome this record is going to be and they keep teasing us by releasing songs and videos of them performing these songs live. Well, follow this link to the Consequence of Sound and listen to the UK single, “We Use to Wait”, and the US single, “Ready to Start”. Amazing. Seriously.
And can we talk about how awesome the cover art is?!
