I recently got the chance to catch Quiet Company again in Atlanta at the Drunken Unicorn and as always, they were quite incredible. The Austin-based five-piece brings high, intense energy and classiness (see ties, vests, etc.) to the stage. If you haven’t seen them live, I highly recommend catching a show the next time they pass through your city. You won’t be disappointed.
Back in April Quiet Company rereleased their 2006 debut, Shine Honestly. Of course, this isn’t your run of the mill rerelease. Taylor Muse and company rerecorded all 12 tracks to reflect how they’ve grown over the past 7+ years and recorded two bonus tunes, “…And You Said it Was Pretty Here” and “Gun Control Means Using Both Hands.” Listen below and watch the video for the track, “The Emasculated Man and the City That Swallowed Him.”
You can order this amazing album here (color vinyl, y’all) as well as their other stellar releases.
Y’all should be friends…
So, Small Reactions is one of my favorite bands and they have a new-to-our-ears track that you should hear called “Michael J. Foxworthy.” It was recorded by Luciano Giarrano at The Cottage in East Atlanta and according to a letter posted on the band’s bandcamp (you should read it), it was created after the band nearly called it quits in 2010. I’m so glad they didn’t.
Turn the speakers up real loud and push play. Rinse and repeat.
Full length is coming soon, definitely be on the lookout for that.

Atlanta’s Evan Andree is mixing it up with his latest 3-song EP, Invisible Sap. It’s a nice change of pace from his previous efforts, definitely worth a listen or five. Check out “Your Song” below. I absolutely love this track, from beginning to end from the vocals & to the warm guitar sound. It’s easy to get lost in this sweet jam.

Invisible Sap is available for free for a limited time via Brite Revolution.

I don’t exactly know what it is about this 2-song release from Atlanta’s own Soft Continent, but it’s just perfect. The track below is a lovely blend of pop melodies and country twang, it’s light and gorgeous. I’m in love with it. Listen to “Sleeping at the Wheel” below and head on over to their bandcamp and throw some dollars their way for these two fantastic tracks.
I can’t wait to hear more.

Sharon Van Etten will also be in town this weekend playing at Terminal West this Saturday, Oct. 27. She’ll be joined by Damien Jurado, Doug Keith and Heather Woods Broderick. Get your tickets now.
Sharon Van Etten‘s album Tramp was released earlier this year on Jagjaguwar and it’s definitely on my top 10 of 2012 list without a doubt. Definitely another album you should run to your fave ATL record store and get.
Watch and listen to “Magic Chords” below.
I definitely feel super lucky to live in Atlanta right now. At any given moment there are at least two shows every night or so to choose from and this weekend is no different.
Dum Dum Girls will be gracing us with their presence at the EARL this Saturday, Oct. 27. Tickets are still available and I’d act fast if you want to check ‘em out, you can get advance tix until 4pm day of show. Also playing, Devin and Old King Cole Younger (Cole from the Black Lips).
Dum Dum Girls recently released their End of Daze EP on Sub Pop. It’s absolutely gorgeous. I’d definitely recommend picking it up from your favorite ATL record store.
Watch and listen to “Lord Knows,” the first single off the End of Daze.
If you know me, you are probably aware of my Austin, TX obsession. Cool city and even cooler music. Anyway, one of my favorites The Sour Notes are coming to Atlanta this Friday (8/10) at the Drunken Unicorn with Evan Andree and The Levee. Check out their video for “Nothing’s More Contagious Than Evil” below and definitely don’t miss the show.
