Listen :: Bridge Underwater

Bridge Underwater is an indie/pop band from the greatest town I’ve never really been to, Philadelphia, PA.
Recently the band released Send Me All Your Love EP on CD and digital download. These brilliant, dreamy pop tunes have an unforgettable 80′s sound with a vibe that’s brand new. And it’s easy to pick up on the band’s influences without it being too overwhelming.
These songs would fit in on any John Hughes’ movie soundtrack. You know, at the end when Samantha Baker kisses Jake Ryan or when Keith and Watts kiss. Swoon.
Anyway, my favorite track on the EP is “I Love You.” That ending guitar riff really does it for me.

Welcome To Daytrotter Movie :: Documentary

Welcome To Daytrotter Movie is currently in production and has been for the past few months.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Daytrotter, it’s a website devoted to music and keeping it relevant. Bands that travel across the US stop in the town of Rock Island, Illinois and record some songs in a little studio. These songs are in turn put up on the Internet for your listening and (free!) downloading pleasure. The music blog and studio started in 2006 and has been going strong ever since. Some sessions include Local Natives, Suckers, Free Energy, Death Cab For Cutie, The War On Drugs (a most recent favorite of mine), Kris Kristoffersen, Diego Perez, Vivian Girls, Aloha and so many more. They also put on special events called Barnstormers which takes place in various barns around the midwest. Daytrotter also had a really incredible Fourth of July party, Barn On The Fourth of July, that featured These United States, The Walkmen and more.
Daytrotter is ran by a great group of people who truly love music. Personally, I think Daytrotter is one of the best ways to find out about new bands.
This documentary can’t happen without some help, so if you visit http://www.welcometodaytrottermovie.com/ you will find some information about how you can help raise funds and generate interest in this documentary.

The Soundmen :: Remix That Tree – Snoop Dogg & Kid Cudi

The Soundmen are at it again, remixing great songs and putting their own unique twist. And it’s no surprise to me that I love the newest remix featuring “That Tree” – Snoop Dogg & Kid Cudi.

From The Soundmen:

The Soundmen have taken Snoop and Cudi’s new single “That Tree” and turned it into a space disco jam where George Clinton, New Order, Passion Pit, and Modest Mouse would all be playing at the same time. Its an extremely fun record whose goal is helping to bring the listener through those last weeks of winter and into spring. I hope you enjoy!

Whip It! :: Movie Review

Over the past weekend I was lucky enough to see the sneak peek of Whip It! due to come out this Friday. Go see it. Seriously.

Drew Barrymore makes her directorial debut with this one and its a knock out. Starring Ellen Page as Bliss, Whip It! involves a misfit from a small town trying to find her place in the world among roller derby babes and pageant queens. Based on the book by Shauna Cross by the same title, this movie will have you cheering for the underdog the entire way.

Bliss is a pageant queen that gets involved with the right kind of derby girls to show her that being who you are is all you need. She finds herself on a journey of bruises, heartache and becoming a hero.

Whip It! also starring Barrymore as Smashly Simpson, Andrew Wilson as Razor and an array of comedic vets including Jimmy Fallon, Daniel Stern and Kristen Wiig. Others include Juliette Lewis, Marcia Gay Harden and Eve.

“Be your own hero” and see this movie on October 2nd.

The soundtrack is amazing, too. Get it on September 29th. Here’s a track listing if you don’t believe me.

Pot Kettle Black – Tilly and the Wall
Sheen is a Punk Rocker – The Ramones
What’s the Attitude – Cut Chemist, Hymnal
